hello
I was watching the Tales From The Green Vally, the Tudor Monsastery
Farm, and the Victorian Farm dvds.
In the one series they need to rebuild the blacksmith shop which had not
been used in fifty+ years. a check of the chimney, flue, and hearth
indicated that approximately 10,000 bricks were needed.
The clay for the bricks was dug on the farm, the two archeologists, Tom
PInfold and Peter Ginn, must learn to make bricks by hand. once they
have the clay dug out and 10,000 bricks made, They need to repair the
kiln and collect the firewood to keep the kiln burning for many days.
They salvage bricks to repair the kiln, else they end up in catch-22.
you need the kiln to make the bricks to repair the kiln. Sort of like
the childens song "There is a Hole in the Bucket".
Alex Langlands, the third archaeologists, helps.
the blacksmith has to be a mason, brickmaker, toolmaker
have knowledge of running a kiln.
The blacksmith had to make the tools used to repair the farm equipment.
the forge is repaired and fired up for the first time in fifty+ years.
the leather bellows was also repaired by a leatherworker.
The forge is used to repair farm equipment and make a butchers cleaver.
the blacksmith was a central figure on the farms in the Tudor, Victorian,
Edwardian eras. He was the "Go To Person".
