Being restricted to the shop isn't that bad....

A project that was finally finished -- think of the 'wheat twist' - a 'U' of steel - twisted clockwise and another counter-clockwise the same number of turns and lay them side-by-side. Now make each 'U' out of 4 pieces of tool steel (1085 & 15N20 - 1/4" square & 12" long). Forge weld them together and forge a blade. Use up scrap blocks of handle material - glue 1" x 2.5" x 3/4" blocks of alternating color on the diagonal. Saw the block down the midline and saw those in half on the other face. Restack & glue. Make a pommel out of copper & cupric nickel fused using a torque plate. Shape a guard from 1/4" x 1" x ~4.5" cupric nickel. Assemble. What is wild (but obvious once you think abut it) the directions of the chevrons reverse from side-to-side.
Now to repeat using 4 bars.....
Steve

Well, it IS a metal!
Maybe make all handles, knobs, handrails from a copper alloy? Or maybe
just copper-plate steel?
