Agreed. Very true. Just like the distribution of PPE and ventilators
should not be subjected to political favoritism.
Please remember that I began this thread as a suggestion to its members of
a possible means to help out the front-line workers, a suggestion I am not
in a position to act upon myself.
This is a diverse group with members everywhere. Although we may differ
politically, I've always been impressed with the thoughtfulness and
intelligence of its members, basically it's a cross-section of America (and
probably elsewhere) that allows me to communicate with people I'd otherwise
not cross paths with.
My most recent posting was to alert others that the Feds may have funds
available for hotel rooms so that these workers do not need risk going home
and infecting their families. Nobody should be forced to make that choice.
I'm mad as hell about what's going on. Two nurses in NJ were fired for
demanding adequate PPE's. That, of course, was to squelch dissent among
the rest of the workers. I say we send in the politicians to the hospitals
to empty the bedpans (they already know how to deal with shit) and give the
hospital staff a break.
There's nothing much I can do meanwhile. I'm an analytical chemist, but
there's no demand for such in this crisis, not to mention that I'm likely
at risk of getting the virus. I make my own masks. I wear jury-rigged PPE
when I go out shopping (which I haven't done for over a week and plan not
to do for at least another week.)
I am slated to donate blood -- if the blood drive comes off this time. The
last one I'd signed up for was cancelled -- due to the pandemic!
