When I was a foreign car mechanic (late 60s, when "foreign car" meant
something :-) we had a tool. It was a maybe 7' braided nylon strap
that we wrapped around a tire and cinched up with a D-ring buckle.
About 4' of the "strap" contained a ca. 3/4" dia inflatable sausage
and the braided wrapping was extendible. So once cinched up, we
applied air to the tire valve on the end of the sausage and it squoze
the tire in very nicely. Haven't seen another since 1969 but then I
haven't hung out a lot where tire work was on the menu and haven't
needed it myself.

I should ask around if such a thing is still sold. Probably have to
add it to my growing list of useful things they don't make anymore.
