I’ve actually used the flammable vapor (not liquid) approach a couple of times.   Worked in a try or two.   I use either propane or ether, whatever is handy.   You can’t get enough flammable mix in a tire to blow yourself up.   I think I actually did it on a tiller tire one of the times I did it.  Don’t recommend the process if you’re afraid of fire, but being blacksmiths, that shouldn’t be a question.
