Bruce, I am glad to see your girlfriend is recovering from her stroke.

The other day, I learned there are two kinds of stroke.  The common one 
where an aspirin can save your life but about 13% of the strokes are 
another one called hemorrhagic stroke where an aspirin might kill you.

I have not read how we can tell the difference between the two strokes 
so the aspirin is still a wise choice unless you are already on a blood 
thinner.
