Thanks, what a story Dave. 

You know Mike, I think we must have known some of the same people. I can't
count how many kids I went to school with who wore "stocks" under their
shoes Wednesday was "pasketty" night and often asked if something was
"alumium" or metal. Even as late as college I was known as a "brain" because
I read when I didn't have to! I got asked a lot of questions because I'm a
"brain." The same geniuses who were asking me 3rd grade level questions said
I was "lucky I knew so much." I couldn't tell you who won the series last
year, though I agree those alumium bats should be outlawed! 

Molybdenum anybody?

Well, maybe in central Canada, not here.  We say "aluminum".  Some few
illiterate older people, ones who dropped out of school in the 3rd or 4th
grade, say "alumium" but mispronouce many other words too.
