Thanks for the feedback.  Not the easiest solution for me when I don't have
a cutting torch but it should be effective.

Using a large disk of steel would work great.. lea 've it loose in the
forge bed with nothing in it but the firepot.   This will allow for the
items to expand and contract at different rates..
