     I just got it to work using this URL (from my Canadian IP, 
nonetheless!)  Maybe it was a gremlin.

     Generally speaking, if accessing a URL is problematic, enclose it 
in angle brackets like these <> before sending the email.  It seems to 
"fix" the cases where the URL gets split by line breaks.
