Perhaps I am just lazy, okay I am lazy. The first thought that occurred 
to me was that I would have to think long and hard about what I would do 
most before I put the tools in place.
   In my case it would be a awfully long walk from forge to anvil in the 
current configuration.
  I like the ballasted system for fixing things in place.

  In my shop , my working position is central to the tooling. I can 
pivot on one foot from forge to all of the primary hand equipment.

  A step or two gets me to the power hammer and treadle hammer.

  If one where doing mostly twisting and forming hot metal then the 
pictured configuration would be fine. For any real metal shaping I would 
want the anvil adjacent to the forge.
