I wish there was more focus on not NEEDING the guarantee because the tools 
work AND last.

Well, you have to assume they bought it for the brand names, since Sears
doesn't actually manufacture anything, so it wouldn't do them much good to
destroy the brand by not honoring the warranty, which is the principle thing
underlying the brand.  These days even the Chinese brand hand tools at
harbor freight have a lifetime guarantee.
