Terry,

I would gas weld it because that is what I'm best at.  If you have a 
friend with a MIG they could weld it with that and not put so much heat 
into the sheet metal.

When I had my mower deck crack a few years ago, I gas welded part of it 
and my apprentice MIG welded part of it. Both fixes held up fine.
