Drill the holes at each end and use sheet metal screws or pop rivets to span the crack with a strip of sheet metal and it will last forever

And the repair that will last until you throw the dam thing away is to drill the end of the tear and use metal tape. Since this is meant to be a temporary repair it will last forever. This is in the Red Green school of repairs.
