Naw, when I was experimenting with patinas outside The book I was buying
chemicals. I god some pretty interesting effects from garlic oil but the
best were from dampening saw dust with el cheapo ammonia and dropping HOT
copper coupons in and shaking. It was a combination of patination and raku.
It was pretty unpredictable but I got a couple examples of the most gorgeous
candy orange and a candy red.
Using moose droppings, shredded paper, dry grass and leaves didn't make much
difference if they weren't in a thick enough layer to prevent air
circulation. We didn't have goats but I don't expect it'd make much
difference. Maybe if we fed them asparagus and brussels sprouts?
Then again I didn't notice any great results using various %s of H2SO4 or
HCL so I doubt ferns, sulfury veggies, etc. would make a difference to
anything but our noses.
Just treating copper like raku pottery made nice but short lived patinas.
While an ammonia vapor patina tended to come out a version of Statue of
Liberty verdigris. I did get some interesting patterns using largish sawdust
and sprinkling it on the pieces cotton net was pretty cool.
Salt dissolved in peroxide dampened net made a pretty cool rust pattern on
steel. Wrinkles and pull bands were really fun to play with.

All this affirms, for me at least , that as far as cats and red haired boys
go is alchemy.
The rest is chemistry confirming that the same results should be possible
without having to house a cat, or poke around in the neighbors litter box.
Thank God.
Jerry ever tried burying something in the goats leavings?
