[TheForge] Auction Companies

Hi Dave,
When I closed my machine shop and heat treating company a few years ago, I hired an auction company to handle the sale of the machinery. The way it works is that they come and assess the value of the shops contents and make you an offer of either a cash sale to them before the auction, or the actual proceeds of the auction less their commission. I opted for the cash up front and turned out to be a good choice as the machines sold at auction for less than I received from the auction house. So, it's not really a crap shoot, you must know roughly what your equipment is worth, and you can decline the offer(s) if not up to your expectations. It was a New England auctioneer so wont help you much.
Regards and good luck,
Michael Schermerhorn

I'm not sure they're appropriate to this sale, nor that they'd be
interested in listing it, but I've dealt a few times with this on-line
auction house and have been satisfied with my purchases. I"ve never been a
seller.
