There are a few folk I know in Cal. I'll ask around though whoever lost
their home and shop are probably offline right now. Even if they grabbed a
laptop running for it their server's probably gone tool. Middletown Cal was
almost completely burned to the ground in the firestorm.
I grew up in S. Cal and know what kind of tinderbox it is in a dry year. Few
things on earth burn like Chaparral: greasewood, Mesquite, tumbleweed,
creosote bush, etc. To survive desert conditions plants evolve the ability
to cover themselves in extremely resinous sap to keep from drying out
completely and it makes them gasoline on a stick.
I lived in the San Fernando Valley during the Bellaire/ Brentwood fires and
others. I remember watching fire storms cresting the mountains around us but
we lived safe in the suburbs, it was nothing like this.
My prayers go out to all those in danger.

I hope for the best for the people near the fire. There's a news story in
the British press with lots of pictures of the devastation from the fire.

Scroll down to about the 38th picture and it shows a blacksmith shop burnt
up and the house is toast. I wonder if it's any one we may know?
