If you have been on this list long enough you know Andy is trying to keep
Bruce out :-)

I have to ask.

Who are you trying to keep out?

Or in?

Just to let everyone know how it all worked out: I acquired 4 10-foot
lengths of 1/2"thick curb- or corner-armoring. It is 6"x4.5" I cut them to
length, welded them in pairs to obtain the 12"x4" channel.
Built the overhead portions from the remainder and some 1/4" plate I had
laying around. All in all, the door frame is about 1000# and in place.

I have since acquired a 107" solid core office door, cut to 101". Clad now
in 1/8" sheet on the outer face, 2x2x1/8 angle on the edges, welded and
carriage-bolted. About 350# total.

Next, I will build 6"x24" strap hinges with oilite bearings built from 3/4"
plate. Why? Because I'm not paying $213 each for industrial-strength strap
hinges.
