The motor without load is quiet and the fan is w/o bearings -- just 
clamped to a shaft.  I'll (shudder) pull the unit tomorrow and  try the 
knife edge idea.  The unit (w/o motor) is something like 70 lbs +...and 
I was a lot younger the last time I wrestled with it.  Progress report 
and pics on my web site tomorrow (I hope <grin>).
