[TheForge] qualifies as steel at work

I had something kind of like that happen to me early one morning. I got rear
ended in an intersection, the other driver was passing me on the right IN an
intersection and nailed me. I was making maybe 15mph. just getting going he
was in a hurry. He was driving a 12 yard dump truck and I was operating a
Cat 14G motor grader with wing and nose plow or as I like to call them
72,000lbs of welded steel and sex appeal. He just about sheared the top of
his cab off on the wing and I didn't notice. The impact caused less fuss
than the drive chain noise and normal ride.
The truck boss caught me at an intersection, all het up about ME hitting his
truck. I literally laughed in his face when he described the kid passing in
an intersection and running into a road grader with enough strobes going to
overload a disco party. The cop who investigated the accident could find
ZERO damage to the grader, not even a scuff and cited the kid. I'm betting
they just put a different cab on the truck, the old one was pretty trashed.
The kid was lucky to live through it, the wing blade stopped abut 10" from
the back of the cab.
That much mass makes a person feel pretty safe but I'm sure glad I don't
have to pay it's feed bill.

Same thing happened to me. The woman's van was totaled. She hit me at
40-45mph

Yep. Just weighed it Saturday. 8050 lbs. 2007.5 Ram diesel. Get 24 mpg
empty and don't worry a lot about being hit. I was hit one morning from
behind in my last dodge ram at a light. I spilled my coffee. They towed the
other pickup and it's driver away.

Only when I need the 8 foot bed. Otherwise, I drive a much lighter vehcile
that gets 30 mpg.
