Have you tried cutting a piece kiln paper that fits tight in the bottom of
the void with another larger piece under? Cut the glass so the fit is close
so you don't have to fire quite as high.

Tin's SG is 7.3 and steel's SG is 7.8 so floating is no joy. Mild steel
won't float on molten tin. It's possible to come up with a stand to support
the cross's bottom surface just below the surface of the tin. The problem
then is freeing the piece from the tin once it's cooled. Tempering
(annealing) the glass takes considerable time and isn't finished till it's
cool. Also, I don't want to "tin" the cross.

Possible but maybe not practical. I'll put floating with tin in the maybe
files unless the kiln paper doesn't work or one of the art glass people
don't have a better alternative.

Thanks again guys. I LOVE brainstorming.

Jer
