I like your observations on Meth and the lack of the Fear Survival mechanism Andy. I think you need to apply for a grant to study this effect. Probably 3 million would do it. Hire some college kids to gather info for 18 months, purchase each a notebook so compilation is easy and then you can review and publish your findings to the Granting agency.
Good Luck with your new Study Andy! :)))

We’ve always had thieves and how well armed and and nasty folks are only thins them out.
It’s gone way up with the popularity of meth. Seems to weaken the fear instinct.
A couple of meth heads tried to dig up and steal the heavy copper leads that ran power to the Santa Barbara marina a few years back. Fried them both..Had to giggle.

That sucks. It is the telltale of a culture which has turned its back on ethics. That describes enough of what America has become and it's a damned shame.
I would have thought that a memorial would be well lit at night. That tends to discourage this sort of thing. Armed locals also helps a lot. People do this kind of shit because the consequences are not really there. If the risk of having the ghost shot from your carcass was high, most of this would stop. But in places like NYC that is not allowed and therefore the crime is through the roof.
Why should I not be a scumbag and take from you that which is not mine to take when the consequences are generally mild? Think "cost/benefit" and "risk/reward". As for crazy junkies, they have no sense so the armed property owner would likely take care of that smudge in the gene pool with dispatch.

Therr was an old wrought iron bridge over in Paso Robles that had been moved to the river bank some years back. I inquired about it a couple of times…Then heard it had been scrapped out…sigh.

You mean that bridge was NOT made of iron? Quite a surprise for the
builders, the owners, the thieves, the scrap yard, and the cops. And, scrap
iron is very much of interest to blacksmiths.

Only President Obama could double the stock market, cut the deficit by
2/3, bring
gas down under $3, get bin Laden, end 2 wars, bring unemployment down under
6%, while fighting a government that is trying to destroy him, and still
be told he's failing as President.
Heat it up
Hit it hard
Repent as necessary.

You're forgetting that "hanging out" is expensive -- guard duty. So you
pay the lowest possible salary to have somebody else hang out there, thus
calling especial attention to the value of the item being guarded. Guard
"falls asleep" on duty and guards buddies walk off with metal.
