Wouldn't work for lead roofing, but I say electrify the sculpture! Rig it
such that the moment the sculpture is moved, a high voltage circuit,
supplying sub-lethal current, is connected. Use a battery for power and
install the thing within the sculpture so there's no cutting it loose.
Maybe have a concealed key switch to disconnect the shocking mechanism.
But legal remedies are better. Nobody should be able to get cash for a
plaque, sculpture, wire, pipe, etc., period, and no payment at all without
providing positive ID and paper trail.
