Sorry about the size of the pages on the link, since the software upgrade a
lot of old pics aren't available anymore on Iforgeiron. I would've uploaded
a pic of my variable volume forge but can't access the photo link on
theforge either. <sigh>

There are a lot of good working designs for gas forges that can be tailored
for specific needs. I built this one before the accident and have never used
the whole volume though it works a treat for several guys working different
stations.

I like brick pile forges, every hot shop should have a fire brick table and
a box of bricks under it. Bottom burner gassers work very well but not if
the burner is in the center of the chamber, it needs to be on one side so
the wall and roof direct the flame in a vortex. Centered the heat is
dissipated. This has it's uses though, and is especially desirable for heat
treating.

When I use a brick pile forge, typically at demos, I simply leave a gap and
lay a burner aimed horizontally across the chamber or aimed downward through
a gap.

A single well made and tuned 3/4" ejector type naturally aspirated propane
burner will reliably bring 350cu/in, forge chamber to welding heat.
Depending on the shape of course, long and narrow for example needs more if
smaller burners for even heat.

Don't take the pics of my forge as a recommendation. while it has potential
to take almost any shape or size up to 19" a square, chances are you won't
use it often enough to justify building this puppy. I do however like having
the lid on a jack it makes movig the partitioning bricks around but don't
use a scissor jack, it's a hassle. A trailer jack works far FAR better for a
number of reasons.

Anyway, that's my Ichi Yen.
