Terry, chisel rolls usually have a piece of something in the pocket. Protectors I have seen and made: formed plastic, wooden sheaths, plastic sheaths, wade of cotton, etc. These all make the pouches last longer without hurting the sharp edge of the chisels. The tool roll materials have been leather and cloth. I dislike the plastic ones as they don't last and crack in the cold. So I would make the roll and line the pouches with something, even vinyl to protect the material for a while.
