What?! A TOOL REST?!!! Never. Never. NEVER.

A tool rest on a buffer is going to get you injured or dead. I damned
near took a finger off when I went to a wire wheel to which someone has
placed a tool rest. I was tired and not thinking clearly about the
danger and worked around the rest. Next thing I knew, both hands were
instantly at my side, the word GONE. My right index finger was opened
like a can of sardines from just behind the finger nail in a 270* spiral
that ends almost at the second joint. I'd severed the artery and was
spraying blood all over the shop. Marshal had left for the evening and I
was alone and had to get myself to the ER. It would have been a whole
lot worse, too.

Never ever put a tool rest on such a device.
