If you use a couple of loops of pipe in the fire box for the water and vent
the heated air into your work space.  You should have a workable system.  I
have seen this work with the heated water beeing held above the level of
the fire so thermo sphion works (heat rises and cold falls) and then use
the hot water as a heat bank to extract more of the heat from the fire.
This would allow you to have several hot fire during the day that wouls
heat the air and the water.  And be able to use the heated water to maitain
the building temp.  You would just need to monitor the water temp and how
the fire was burning to keep yourself a somewhat consistant level of
comfort.
