Prevention of eviction in order to safeguard the cultural heritage of the metal artist Fritz Kühn

petition by
Thomas Seidel
Berlin, Germany

The property in Berlin - Bohnsdorf (Richterstraße 6, 12524 Berlin) which contains the artistic legacy of metal sculptor , artist blacksmith and photographer Fritz Kühn - in the care of the Fritz Kühn society - is threatened with eviction on February 17. Among other things Fritz Kühn (1910 - 1967) designed the fountain on the Strausberger Platz (" Floating Ring " ), the facade of the Komische Oper in Berlin, the sculpture " Cosmic circles" in Hannover, the " Floating Crystal " in Dusseldorf and contributed to the memorials of the former concentration camps Buchenwald and Dachau. In 1969 the Louvre presented a retrospective for him. Today his works are threatened by an early end in the scrap press .

On January 16, 2014 the Berlin House of Representatives deferred an urgent request for " securing the artistic estate of Fritz Kühn " for consideration to its Cultural Commission . There however, the responsible parties on January 20 refused even its discussion .

Here it is necessary to refer to Article 35 of the Unification Treaty, according to which the cultural substance inherited from the former GDR is protected from taking damage . Because of the ignorant behavior of the cultural administrators of Berlin, a further treatment of this issue on the level of the federal government is being impeded .

We call on Klaus Wowereit to do everything in his power to avert the imminent destruction ! The point is to prevent eviction and then to open a museum venue for the presentation of the artistic legacy of this internationally renowned Berlin artist (creating a sculpture park , see article in the Berliner Zeitung : What to do with art? ) .
