Oh, boy!  Does that ever remind me of my TA-ship in chemistry, back in the
days that pocket calculators had just got affordable to college students.
As an undergraduate, I had to do my calculations on a slide rule, so I
could quickly see the small-number ratios of importance when working up the
empirical formula from an elemental analysis (say, C6 H12 O6 for a hexose
sugar).  These nitwit freshmen would report things like C61 H114 O58 and
wonder why the were marked wrong!

Precision of readability does NOT equal accuracy!

When I take my hot/very hot measurments I can see the readings jumping
around all over the map.  When the median of the jumps is near 450-500F, I
figure it's time to weld.
