Reading that prompted me to look up the MSDS of one major brand of leather
dye:

Note the methanol and isopropanol: Use this dye outside for reasons of
toxicity and flammability. And let it dry thoroughly because the
diethylene glycol monomethyl ether will be much slower to evaporate and is
not innocuous:

Actually, that MSDS is a relief. Years ago, before there was an Internet
where you could find MSDS's, I got a bottle of some leather dye that I
swear smelled like chlorobenzene, a known carcinogen.
