Correct -- it's just a booster. No problem lighting with the system
hooked up and blowing. IF the gate were sealed, then there might be
a problem with too little air but my gate seems leaky enough for that
not to be a problem (and I usually have it slightly open
anyway). Just slip the manifold off to run bare. The set screw is
there because when near my power hammer, the vibrations might pop the
manifold off, so I added the screw to prevent that from ever
happening. On the shop forge (two burner with a significantly larger
volume than the Damascus forge), I usually run it at 2000-2200F with
no boost (10-15 psi). For the occasional times I want welding temp,
I pop a very small blower on the front burner. Venturi's don't seem
to mind a bit of help.
