[TheForge] A different needle question

Dad did a lot of aerospace work and some rocket engine metals spun at heats
Dad had to use serious exotics for the dies and rollers. As torch holder I
had to judge how to hold the torch to keep the hot spot just ahead of the
tool and depending on the Ti alloy avoid "orange peal". Some Ti alloys you
couldn't hurt with an oxy acet torch, just not hot enough.
Once I "accidently" brought some Ti trimmings home with the intention of
forging an axe but no matter how hot I got it, it just ate the finish on
hammers without taking as much as a mark. What I was using as an anvil was a
piece of 2"x4" mild steel bar and that got chewed all to heck and gone.
There's just something about rocket engine bells that need to be strong and
heat resistant. Go figure eh?
