[TheForge] Removal of Norton

Jerry, we love to piss you off- the results are so entertaining.

However, all the complaints you list below are just as true for modern Windows systems- they do lots more than you tell them too, the try to sell you stuff every five minutes, and they auto correct everything but your sexual preference.

I am running two different versions of Windows these days, and both of em are MORE intrusive than the current apple operating system.

What you say about price was absolutely true for the 1984 Mac I bought- it was fiendishly expensive.
Current desktop models, however, run right around a grand to eleven hundred.
A truly equivalent PC that you build yourself is not any cheaper than that.
If you buy an off the shelf PC from a major brand, its also gonna run you at least what the Mac costs.
This is apples to apples, (sic) new prices.
There was a price differential once, but realistically, these days, its almost gone, and thats just for hardware- once you add in the additional software you need for keeping a PC healthy, the macs are cheaper.
The only exception is if you are some kinda crazy "gamer". Me I dont have anywhere near enough time to waste on that stuff, but it is true you can build up a PC to be very fast at gaming. The people I have known who did it, though, inevitably spend more doing it than they do if they bought a mac- its kind of like hot rodders- never seen a 55 Chev with a built engine that was cheaper than a stock VW bug, brand new. Faster, sure.

As I said, I run 3 PCs.
And about five macs.

One thing I will say- if you have somebody debugging for twenty five bucks, thats an incredible deal, dont get that guy grumpy.

Buy whatever the hell you want, and enjoy it.

But you cannot deny that macs do not have any of the ongoing maintenance issues that PCs do.
You have more time than money, so you can dick around with the damn thing til your patience runs out.
I cannot.
