[TheForge] Removal of Norton

Jerry: i started on Dos 2.5 and a puter that had no HD but 2 floppies. One floppy and a half of the second held Wordstar 3.? and a spell checker.
I roughly added it up and figured i'd spent well over a year of my waking life and innumerable $, trying to get MS and PCs to function.
Buying expensive Macs and working at minimum wage for that wasted time would have been way cheaper and less frustrating! Admittedly, i was being cheap, being a poor metal sculptor and that cost me greatly. Buying discount, bottom of the line PCs was a profound mistake.
I prefer the inherent anarchy of the PC format philosophically.
But pragmatically, it was a disaster in retrospect.

Get uh Mac. They're TOO expensive. All the money I've spent since I got into
computers (Commodore-64 days) up to the present contracting professional bug
killing has cost a small fraction of what the first mac would've cost me,
let alone the new models I would've bought over the years. Even having Joe
come out and clean up the factory installed malware only cost me $25.00 and
he'll be back on the same dime once he discovers how to clean out some of
the more persistent factory malware. I'll probably feed him dinner and a
beer but that's more a tip.

When a person considers price per value, the only reason Apple got out of
the garage is because they virtually GAVE Apple comps to the school system
to train an entire generation to use Apple and no other. Smart businessmen
but I can't afford them.

Yeah, Windows can be a PITA but Microsoft at least pays a modicum of notice
to customer comments and is debugging the OS. Not saying I wouldn't prefer
to use an older more user friendly OS but a person just MUST be able to play
with APPS and such without having to do something as old fashioned as type!
Bummer I'm too old to want my machine to do more than what I TELL it to, and
went to school at a time when the 3 Rs counted so I don't need spell and
grammar check, let alone suggestions as to where to find products the
computer believes will interest me.

TELLING me buy a Mac was Enrique's answer to my being unable to log onto the
Artmetal website, the problem was with the site, and I was supposed to be
running the blacksmithing section. So, suggesting I "get a Mac" is most
likely to
just piss me off.

Not targeting you Andy I just figure I can hit reply on your post without
you having a canniption fit, like the more sensitive folk here.

Sorry to bother any of you by blowing off steam here.
