[TheForge] Removal of Norton

Andy and I have had our minor disagreements over some issues (well, politics, mostly), but I am totally with him on this one.

I own, or maintain for family, at least 8 computers, including 3 that run Windoze.
And there is no way in hell I would ever let a Windoze PC online.
The macs run for years and years, going to the crappiest Somalian illegal download sites, and worse- my kids download rap, participate in sports talk forums, and, being young men, undoubtedly more sordid things as well.
NEVER a virus, a trojan, or, most thankfully, a single dollar spent, or minute wasted, on supporting mr. MaCaffees habits for young men and drugs in costa rica, or whatever the hell frippery mr. Norton spends his money on.

As I said, I run PC's all the time- for some programs, they are the best. I just dont let them play in the schoolyard unattended- there are pervs out there.

Its really really easy, and much cheaper in the long run, to buy a new Imac refurbished from apple, and, when you get it, immediately install Windows.
You can boot it up as either a mac or a Windows machine in fifteen seconds or so, and enjoy the best of both worlds. For web surfing, I boot in Mac mode. For programs that need it, I run Windoze. fast, safe, and easy, plus, generally speaking apple quality control and parts longevity far outlasts the third rate culling of reject parts you get at your neighborhood "build your own PC" store. Apple demands, and gets, the best of the production run of hard drives or displays. Many people run the little Mac Minis as servers, without ever booting them as Apple machines- the hardware is just so reliable.

When I compare the amounts my friends have spent on virus and debugging programs, to "save" a couple hundred bucks on the initial purpose, or to spite those damn california hippies- well, lets just say my bourbon fund is well endowed.
