I quit on steel toes the first time i had to cut my bloody toes free of the collapsed steel cap to take the boot off.

I haven't worn steel toes since phenolic toes became available. It doesn't take very long at all on your knees welding on steel before the leather wears through to the caps. Once that happens you get the delightful surprise of finding out sweat is an excellent conductor when you mistakenly touch metal changing rods.

I have no idea why but the phenolic toes don't wear through the boot toes like steel toes, doesn't make sense to me but what is is. The last time I looked they were no longer called steel toes but *safety toes*. Safety *boots *on the other hand have to have anti puncture shanks. Darn, I can't recall what it's called but it's a springy steel insole running from your toes to your heel.

*GEEZ *what you remember from old jobs!
