It sounds like you should have investigated it 15 years ago. Could have made
you life a lot easier and would have been easier to work on when it was
brand new.
I got a drill press vice many years ago that was too tight. I took it apart
sanded the mateing surfaces and that took care of the problem. Of course a
vice is much easier to take apart than a tail stock.

This thing's been stiff since day 1, about 15 years ago. Not my lathe,
but well taken care of. I've kroiled it, tranny fluid, you name it.

So does this. I've removed the parts. Still stiff as an oar.
