[TheForge] burns

Andy;
Lavender oil is markedly estrogenic and should probably be avoided by us guys.
My personal  burn drill goes...
1.RUN to the quench tank or cold flowing water fast...seconds count!
Like meat on the stove keeps cooking after the heat is shut down, burn damage continues to propagate on residual heat.
If the skin is unbroken, the cleanliness of the water isn't so important. Keep the burn moving underwater to sap the extra heat.
2. Ice second, if it's nearby, till the cold quenches the pain ( stop short of frostbite). This seems to restrict the spread of inflammation.
3. Pine tar ( like sold for tree grafting). The Brazil bros said it was an old farrier's treatment and i've become a convert..even for pretty serious burns. It damps down the pain surprisingly quickly and i've never had a subsequent infection..quick healing. Much better than any other burn treatment i've tried, including aloe, burn ointments, etc.
Lord only knows what sort of awful aromatic hydrocarbons and the like are in the stuff, however. It's messy too, and smears on everything, so i usually cover it up.
I am not a medical professional, just speaking from too much intimate experience.

Jer, sorry to hear about the burn, even a minor one can cramp your style.

I don't know where I first heard about this, but I keep Lavender oil in the
shop- when I get a burn (almost always at a black heat) I start alternating
lavender oil and dunks in the slack tub and keep working- it hurts like
blazes for an hour or two, then I forget about it.

Heals without a scar almost always.

I don't know why it works so well- I don't care about pleasing any MDs, all
it has to do is work, and it does, every time.
