Maple can be very dangerous to fell. Check out the butcher's bill felling 
Vine Maple. You can't even limb it without putting your life on the line.

Next time I want to cut trees I'm renting a 315 Cat excavator with a thumb. 
PUsh em over, shake the dirt off the roots and haul it out and stack it for 
bucking. Fast, easy and safe, excavators are at the top of heavily armored 
earth movers.
