Dave, I cut the left middle finger most of the way off, kind of through the
base of the fingernail, through the bone.
They usually just clean the wound up and leave you with a short finger when
it's cut there, but there was just enough sensation and blood flow   left
that the surgeon put a wire through the tip to hold it straight and
reattached it. Perhaps I'll play guitar again soon.

It's interesting to speculate on how my marriage might have changed as a
result of this: there's a wives' tale that a husband with index finger
longer than middle finger will be the dominant spouse- my dynamic executive
wife has that feature. We'd probably have slain each other working it out-
"I did it for us, honey"
