I think the price when I first purchased it was about $20 a gallon.
I'm sure it has gone up, but I will still purchase it again.
The gray surface that others have described is likely just the grainy
surface of pure metal left behind by the rust that has been removed. I will
say that you should dry and coat the surface immediately after removing it
from the Evaporust as it will quickly rust again without coating.

A holdover from my bodyshop days is DuPont Metalprep 79. It's used just
before priming and removes oxide layers and leaves a thin phosphate coating
that takes paint very well.
