Success speaks for itself Andy so I'll not go on about it. You've
developed the technique to do it right but I keep hearing so many
failure stories I dis-recommend hard facing as a matter of course. My
only question is, how long did it take you to grind a good finish?

My experience with hard facing is similar. Stoody is old school and okay
at best. Hobart Smooth arc is GOOD but we burned mostly Lincore 50 and
it did well. I don't even know if you can still get Eutectic Ultimium
and no I didn't give it a search. the Ultimium was hands down the best
anywhere but Eutectic priced themselves out of reach.
