Pretty much all of Lincoln's MiG wire is 70,000 LB according to our sales
rep. I and a lot of other blacksmith's I know use it to redress edges on
anvils with no problems at all. If it dents or chips out, simply re-weld
it... no need to get overly high-tech about it... it is an anvil, they
weren't made from high tech super alloys to start with, why repair them with
them?

I have a Trenton that's well over a century old, it has an unusual base that
makes it perhaps a collector piece. First decent anvil I had.
When I got it the off side was pretty chewed up and one day I took some
stainless stick rod and just built the edge up to suit me. Have done a world
of work on it since...not the best material to use, but if the object is to
have a good, working anvil with the edges you need to get the job done,
what's to lose?
Never regretted it, though I agonized over it at the time.
