   One of the best spur of the moment purchases I ever made was when I 
noticed a good sale on flat bit tongs. By good I mean just slightly over 
the cost of the materials.

  Someone had over stocked.

  None of them are flat any more. All were reconfigured on a moments 
notice mid project.

If you are looking for a practice project making a dozen or so flat bit 
tongs would be a useful and practical exercise.
