[TheForge] steampunk blacksmithing?

seems like most steampunk I have seen is all about looks, not reality.
For instance, there is a huge amount of steampunk "guns"- but they are almost always plastic guns, modified to look cool. 

I have done a few pieces that are somewhat steampunk- but I am not interested in them being  called that, particularly. 
Done a bunch of non-functioning fantasy weapons, guns, swords, and even gunknives. 
As an artist, I am interested in the way things look, but as a blacksmith, it has to be real.
