[TheForge] filling pipe with sand to bend

 Cool Jerry.
But by gosh, you are talking about really big cable!
I tried it once with 1 1/2" copper pipe, trying for too small a radius over an inadequate form,
with just 1" cable...and the result was ugly.

It'll work but like anything there are up sides and down sides. Leave a
little weep hole in the plugs or you can get a steam explosion, even if you
believe the sand is dry, hygroscopic moisture drives off at temps above
230f.

Another method that seems to be really successful is to thread a cable
through the pipe and using a winch, hand power or a couple D-9 dozers draw
the pipe over a mandrel with the desired radius. If you use cable of a close
match diameter wise distortion will be minimal to not at all. Loggers just
bend pipe over a tree stump with good results.
