Well, gee, Phlip, you never know when a table saw might jump out of a
closet and try to getcha! In all probability, this was a
lobbying-inspired bill promoted by someone with a large financial
interest in "active injury mitigation technology."
Anyway, there's a BIG out:
"Notwithstanding the prior sentence, active injury mitigation
technology may be temporarily deactivated by a person so that a saw
can cut material which would otherwise be detected as a person."
So, just install a sensor that detects when ANYTHING gets within a
foot of it and shuts down the saw. Then add a switch that overrides
the sensor for, say, a day or two!
Another out: It only applies to saws with blade diameter 12" or less.
Curiously, this bill doesn't address portable rotary saws -- which are
a damned sight more dangerous than table saws.
