In the early 70s, a neighbor allowed as how he had to cut down an
enormous and spectacular beech that grew a few feet from his house.
He was in his early 70s himself and opined, "It don't have to come
down now but if I wait till it has to, I may be to old to do it."
Down it came.

My anvil stump for 30 years was a big crotch from that tree, with
space enough to hold a swage block alongside.  Now passed on to Gerry
Levy for his Peter Wright.  I still have a stake anvil mounted in one
of the other chunks.
