[TheForge] how do they make 300 mesh titanium powder?

Some metal powders are made by atomizing molten metal using a inert gas.
The resultant powder is of various sizes and is then “sorted” usually by
blowing the cooled powder to form a size diminution. Some powders are very
dangerous because if exposed to air they can explode or if they become wet
they generate hydrogen. (Aluminum for example.)

At one time aluminum flake was made from foil scrap in ball mills, but I
don't think that is still done. Aluminum powder biggest use is for solid
fuel rockets and explosives. Then come metalic paints. It is now made in
plants with no people present around the process because of the high danger.
Try this at home -- good way to kill yourself.

Ries, I "think" Terry was asking about metal powder, see his subject line.
