Andy V, as always, has some valid points- the 1934 SCOTUS decision had an
interesting passage TTET Owning guns "such as a militia member would be
expected to have for legal purposes" is protected under the constitution.
What a can of worms!
Fact: The whole "assault rifle" debate is a red herring. Is it the Federal
Government's place to take extreme action to prevent highly unusual events?
We should think about 9/11, which in retrospect we can all agree should
have been treated as a police matter and solved quickly with the whole
world's cooperation.
If you want to prevent "gun crime," you need to look at why it happens.
I'm like a dog with a bone on this one- people keep saying, "No other
modern country has such liberal gun laws, so we should do what they do."
HEY! No other modern industrialized country has anything near the racial
inequality or poverty that we accept as normal, they all face such problems
as health care and elder care squarely, too.
If one should be moved to look at who is actually dying by the thousands,
it's black people and some Hispanics. Set aside suicide by gun and your
chances as a white male of dying by gunshot are remote, to say the least.
Odd how we only get "up in arms" about it when it's white kids, isn't it?
