Hi Mike;
No longer a VW..it's art now. Practical considerations have faded.
I figure one can replace the critical parts of an english wheel with 2 bearings..the difficult part being a bearing replacement from a self aligning bearing with a crowned outer race.

Utterly nonfunctional. They could have achieved the same
outrageousness by disassembling the original coachwork, sand-blasting
all the paint away and doing all the leaf and scroll work as reposusse
and applique. Even piercing backed with red or green leather and more
metal would work. As it its, the roof leaks, the fenders allow mud
splatter, the bonnet admits wind that will penetrate around that
rediculous carboard panel over the dash instruments and the irritating
engine noise will be even less muffled.
Good idea and great workmanship gone, alas, awry.
But thanks for the pointer, nevertheless.
Related note: Princess Auto (our home-grown [1] alternative to HF) has
been selling English wheels for the last couple of years. I keep
trying to resist buying one just to disk around with and see if I can
learn to use it, sucessfully so far.

[1] Home-grown: Well, Winnipeg, MB is home to *some* people. PA now
has a store/outlet in Nova Scotia.
